Eastgate Academy Welcomes Ian Watt as New Head of School


Moncton, NB  – Eastgate Academy is thrilled to announce the appointment of Ian Watt as the institution’s new Head of School. With an extensive background in independent education, Watt brings a wealth of experience and a commitment to fostering academic excellence and community engagement.

Watt joins Eastgate Academy with a distinguished career spanning over two decades in independent schools. His leadership roles have equipped him with a deep understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities within the educational landscape.

“I am honoured and excited to accept this appointment at Eastgate Academy, and I look forward to working closely with our students, their families, my dedicated colleagues, and Board members within the greater Moncton and area communities. Eastgate Academy is the first school in the Maritimes to be authorized to offer the Primary Years Program by the International Baccalaureate, and it is the ideal time to join this vibrant, growing school community.”

Watt’s vision for Eastgate Academy emphasizes a student-centered approach that prioritizes holistic development, innovative teaching methods, and a strong sense of community. His collaborative leadership style and passion for education are poised to further elevate the school’s reputation in the Greater Moncton area.

Watt brings a wealth of educational experience to the role, having earned advanced degrees from esteemed institutions.

Watt holds an MA in Leadership and Technology from Royal Roads University, a BEd from Brock University, and a BA in Philosophy from Queen’s University. He completed his secondary education at Upper Canada College, where he obtained his Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).

Since 2016, he has served as an instructor and program founder at York University’s Faculty of Education, specializing in the Principal Qualification Program with an independent school focus. 

Previously, Ian held leadership roles at St. John’s-Kilmarnock School in Breslau, ON, including Deputy Head of School and Interim Head of School. He also served as Head of School at Bishop’s College School in Lennoxville, QC, and held senior positions at Trinity College School in Port Hope, ON, and Lakefield College School in Lakefield, ON. His early career included directing Onondaga Camp in Minden, ON.

Ian Watt’s diverse academic background and commitment to excellence make him a valuable addition to our team. His appointment as Head of School signifies Eastgate Academy’s continued commitment to providing students with a transformative educational experience that prepares them for success in an ever-changing world.
