Upper-elementary school is an exciting time in a child’s development. As children deepen their literacy and numeracy skills, they become more independent as learners. We structure our curriculum around themes that help students to explore the world around them and give them opportunities to build skills and understanding that can be transferred to new situations. Learning is organized into units of inquiry: in-depth explorations of concepts that transcend individual subjects and allow students to demonstrate and develop a range of skills. The units of inquiry are supported with instruction in English, French, mathematics, visual and performing art, and Physical Education.

The daily schedule varies throughout the week to ensure that students get a balance of instruction in each subject, as well as plenty of time for physical activity and creative expression. Similarly, structured class time is balanced with flexible learning time during which students can select from a range of different endeavours that are connected to the curriculum.
